Brooklyn Museum to name current deputy director Glenn Lowry as its next president

The Brooklyn Museum will name current Deputy Director and Director Glenn Lowry, who helped lead the institution through some of its most successful runs, as its new president and chief operating officer. In his new role, Lowry will lead the museum’s day-to-day operations and working with fellow museum leaders.

Hailing from a long line of educators and professionals of high distinction, Lowry brings a record of thinking and leadership for the museum, including his 15 years as the museum’s chief curator. In addition to leading exhibitions, including ambitious 2017 show on 19th-century painter Maurice Gilman, Lowry spearheaded a number of scientific initiatives that have led to the museum’s being recognized as an international leader in genealogical research.

“Glenn Lowry has nurtured art history, knowledge and understanding at the Brooklyn Museum for decades,” said Isaac Aaron Miller, president and CEO of the Brooklyn Museum. “As president and chief operating officer, he will be charged with continuing these same priorities of research, curatorial excellence and visitor experience as the Museum enters its 90th year.”
